In my spare time I love to read (mysteries are my favorite), be outdoors biking or hiking or camping, play with my dog, and work crossword puzzles. The best and quickest way to reach any of the teachers is through email. Here are our email addresses: Thank You Parents and Students! This year is already off to a wonderful start!! Study SessionsTeam 8-2 will hold study sessions after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:45pm. There will always be two teachers available to help students. On Thursdays, computer lab time will be offered in addition to classroom help. Please feel free to take advantage of this time if you feel your child would benefit from some extra quiet study time or time with the teachers.
AttendanceWe just want to stress the importance of coming to school every day and on time. We know that sometimes absences can not be avoided, however, if at all possible, please make sure that your child is in attendance each day. We miss them when they are not here!! This year we will be taking attendance at the beginning of each period so please remind students to be on time for all classes.
Homework Policy and Team WebsiteStudents are expected to complete all work and hand it in on its due date. If a student is absent, he/she will have as many days as he/she was absent to make up the work. The best way to keep on top of homework assignments is for students to use their assignment notebook and check the team website at http://82team.weebly.com/index.html.
Remember to refresh the website every time you use it so it updates!! Service ProjectsThis year our focus will be to support the "Honor Flight Network" for Veteran's Day. Honor Flight brings World War II veterans to Washington D.C. to visit their memorial. We will be raising money with a bowl-a-thon at Funway. Be on the lookout for pledge sheets come November.
Our second service project will be to aid the Haitian disaster victims. Haiti has been hit by numerous natural disasters over the last two years, and the country is struggling to rebuild after the devastating earthquake in January 2010, tropical storm Tomas later that year, a breakout of cholera in November 2011, and now the flooding from hurricane Isaac. Ms. Schumacher has traveled to Haiti numerous times since 2009 and has developed connections there at Notre Maison/St. Joe’s, orphanages that take in both special-needs children and able-bodied kids, and at the school TeacHaiti School of Hope. In order to support the neighborhood around the orphanages, Team 8-2plans to collect travel size bars of soap. Care packages that contain 1-2 bars of soap, a homemade washcloth, and information on how to prevent the spread of cholera will be put together. Ms. Schumacher will then distribute them on her visit to Haiti over Thanksgiving break. The TeacHaiti School of Hope is in its 4th year of existence, and it is in the process of creating its first library. The school teaches pre-K through 6thgrade this year, and the teachers are looking for books in both English and French and that would appeal to kids ages 4-12. The children speak Haitian Creole at home, but all school subjects are taught in French. At TeacHaiti the students begin learning English in 3rd grade. We would love to be able to collect books that Ms. Schumacher can take with her either in November or in January when she goes to Haiti on an extended visit.
